Dartmouth Whalers Masters Swim Club
2009 – 2010 Term Registration Information
The following contains information about registration with the Dartmouth Whalers Masters Swim Club. Please read carefully.
TERM SCHEDULE AND SWIM TIMES
The swimming year is divided into two terms:
Term 1: September 20, 2009 thru January 16, 2010
Term 2: January 17, 2010 thru to May 13, 2010
The team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. and Sundays 8:15 – 9:30 p.m. Membership to the Dartmouth Whalers is completely separate from a Dartmouth Sportsplex membership. Being a Whalers member does not entitle you to the use of other Sportsplex facilities such as the weight room etc. or use of the pool outside of Dartmouth Whalers Masters Swim club practice times. The front desk will let you in approximately 15 – 20 min. before the scheduled swim time.
FEES
All fees must be paid at the start of the year by one of two methods:
- In full :
- $300.00 (includes $25 to N.S. Masters)
- -or-
- 2 post dated cheques:
- Friday September 7/2008 $150.00 (includes $25 to N.S. Masters)
- Sunday January 11/2009 $150.00
There is an annual registration fee of $25 to Nova Scotia Masters Swimming. This makes you a member of Nova Scotia Masters Swimming, which gives you accident and liability insurance, and the Masters Swimming Canada Newsletter. All members must be registered with Nova Scotia Masters; the Club will do this for you as part of the registration process.
Fees must be paid by one of these methods before you will be considered registered and be eligible to swim.
Note that payment by either method in no way commits you to swimming the second term. Anyone wishing to discontinue their membership prior to the start of the second term has only to notify the President (Jenn Nearing), Treasurer (Tami Mosher), or Registrar (Steve Hurlbut) and their remaining post-dated cheque will be destroyed or their fees for the second term refunded, as appropriate. This policy greatly facilitates dealing with the second term waitlist in a timely manner. We know before the end of the first term, not three weeks into the second term, how many second term spots we have open. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Post-dated cheques will be cashed on or shortly after the start of the second term. Reminder announcements will be made by e-mail and on the pool deck prior to the date cheques are cashed.
If space is available, new members can join the club at anytime during the year. After the first third of a term, fees will be pro-rated based on the number of weeks left in the current term.
WAITING LIST
If the club membership limit (currently set at 65) is reached, a waiting list will be started. People will be called up from the waiting list to fill second term vacancies caused by departing members.
TRIAL PRACTICE
A one-practice trial is available for potential new members who want to see what a practice is like before committing to join the club. To take advantage of this, new swimmers should contact Jenn Nearing or Steve Hurlbut.
REFUND POLICY
There are no pro-rated refunds for the current term. It is the responsibility of an individual swimmer to notify the executive before the start of the second term if they do not intend to continue swimming. Once the second term has started and the cheques are cashed, there are no refunds.
